The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Could Fix That

Whenever a major awards ceremony draws close, there’s always a clamor for the addition fresh award types to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and fill the passions of followers dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator previously argued supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. The same goes for board games, representing a passionate advocate's mission. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front because like all single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case supporting my request is the most urgent and significant. Here's the proposal: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Classifying creative works is not a science; it remains highly personal, and typically start arguments and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that movie academies steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents an essential concession for the industry of gaming, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Existing Game Classification System

Leading game ceremonies offer these genre categories for Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these award types successfully include many game types, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Think about these outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. What category would fit them between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

Numerous examples exist outstanding logic titles published annually lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested independent game categories.

  • An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated for anything in 2014
  • Another imaginative release was excluded during that ceremony
  • Well-received sorting experience received no acknowledgment recently
  • Limited numbers of brain-teasers barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're modest productions, however the design behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most popular titles in the world maintaining this status for many years.

The legendary block-stacking game challenges popular creative games competing to become best-selling game of all time; it also contends as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, and engaging with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. It would be easy to populate five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these are games without proper classification at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators operate at the hard edge interactive creation, producing among most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Similar to film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
